Program Description:
​
The EAGLE Program is a two-year certificate program for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities at Edison State Community College. Students enrolled in the program take inclusive classes with their ESCC peers, as well as specialized classes specifically for the students in the program. In addition, students will be required to complete internships as part of the program. While being a participant in the EAGLE Program, students will learn self-advocacy skills, engage in peer socialization, and focus on career exploration. The intent of the program is for students to gain life and work skills and be ready to enter the workforce upon completion.

Types of inclusive classes that students enroll:

Students take classes based on their interests. Some examples thus far include Art & Computer Information Technology. Students may also enroll in Beginning Reading/Writing and an Intro to College course.

Supports provided to students in inclusive classes:

Students may take classes for credit or audit. The student may have a Peer Mentor or Educational Coach to assist with coursework. If the student needs any accommodations, the Disability Advisor may assist with getting those set up. The Director of the EAGLE Program also regularly communicates with the instructors for the courses in which the students are enrolled to do a progress check.

After the students’ first semester in the program, they will begin to do internships. During this time, students may receive assistance from a Job Coach, as well as follow-along services.

It is also the intent that there will be connections with DD adult service providers and/or OOD to sustain employment upon program completion.

Describe the counseling and supports that are available for your students with ID:
​
Students can access typical campus services. In addition, the student may receive assistance and guidance from their Peer Mentor. The Director of the EAGLE Program also maintains close contact with the students and other team members, which may include family members, Board of DD, etc.
